Finding the CFR for Free Online

The CFR is available for free online from a few different resources. e-CFR provides access to the current CFR. govinfo includes the current CFR as well as prior versions back to 1997. Select government agencies may also include links to or lists of relevant CFR sections. See below for more details.

Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (e-CFR)
The e-CFR is an editorial compilation of CFR material and Federal Register amendments produced by the National Archives and Records Administration's Office of the Federal Register (OFR) and the Government Printing Office. The OFR updates the material in the e-CFR on a daily basis. It is a currently updated version of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). It is not an official edition of the CFR.

Code of Federal Regulations govinfo (GPO)
CFR from 1997 - present (select Titles from 1996 also available). Can Browse by year and title. To search the CFR, click the orange "Search" button, select "Advanced", then under "Refine by Collection" select "Code of Federal Regulations". Search results can be further refined by using the side panel on the search results screen. For additional information and tips, see the About the Code of Federal Regulations page.
